Philadelphia Homeless Census

The Philadelphia Independent Media Center and the Daily Pennsylvanian are two advocates for change in the way that Philadelphia cares for it's homeless population. Recently there was a volunteer boots on the ground survey to assess the true number of those living on the street. The census of homelessness was hosted by Project Housing, Opportunities for Employment and Medical Care and Education.

The city conducts this survey each year, and the numbers stay about the same. Around 3,500 are homeless in Philadelphia.

Other Local Guides for Doctors

Besides the Philadelphia doctors guide that was created early in 2011 we have a few other helpful local medical guides. Most of the data for these guides has been obtained through open sources with extensive custom data massaging thrown in. The scrubbing and cleaning and organizing that is required to be performed on public access data such as business directory listings is tremendous.

In the Southern California area there is a San Diego doctors guide that features some outstanding area physicians. Southern CA is an area known for it's broad range of medical specialists in top tiers such as cosmetic surgery and sports medicine (after all, if you live in San Diego you're more likely than average to care about your health and looks!)

Another fine local medical guide is the one that was developed for the Portland Oregon area in 2011. This Portland doctors guide is similar to the other two in most respects with the dubious distinction of requiring far more data manipulation and cleaning than any other local guide we have developed thus far. We use some programming intelligence to assist us in data cleansing, however there was (and is) many hours of manual labor involved in the cleaning.

More Than One Philadelphia Guides Blog

There was a mixup when we created the blog for the Philadelphia Guides .. and we now have more than one of them. Rather than consolidate them I decided that it would be a good idea to use the primary blog found at philadelphiaguides.blogspot.com as a general announcement site and this one as a more specific information platfrom for Philadelphia news and consumer data.
